  リーダーの究極の目標  自分より優れた人材を育成する  人はいつか老いて消えゆくものである。従って「自分の理念を後世に伝えたい」、つまり「自分の会社･店舗を存続させたい」と願うのであれば、それを受け継ぐ事の出来る人材を育成しなければならない。子が親を越えていくように、会社･店舗でも世代交代は必ずやってくる。つまり、『自分より優れた人材を育てる』事は、飲食店経営者にとっては当然の事である。もはや義務であるといってもよい。金銭欲や名誉欲よりも、会社の理念、即ち己の社会的意義のある人生哲学を優先させる志の高い崇高な人間性を持った飲食店経営者にとっては、切っても切り離す事の出来ない使命であるとも言える。従ってこの本では、『自分より優れた人材を育てる』を飲食店経営者にとって究極の、そしてまさに最終的なゴールと定義づける事にする。  ここで一つ、中国の偉大なる哲学者『老子』の、｢最高のリーダー像｣についての言葉を紹介しよう。  『太上（たいじょう）は下（しも）これあるを知（し）るのみ』  〈訳〉  　最も優秀なリーダーは、自分の働きを人民に知らさない。人民は、ただそのリーダーがいる事を知っているだけだ。次に優れたリーダーは、人民に親しまれ褒め称えられ愛される。それより劣るリーダーは、人民に対して厳しくし恐れられる。一番駄目なリーダーは、人民に馬鹿にされ軽蔑される。リーダーに誠実さが欠けていれば、人民からは信用されなくなる。リーダーが人民を信じなくなると、言葉や規則ばかり作って、人民を管理しようとする。  　最高のリーダーは、治める事に成功したら後は退いて静かにしている。すると人民はその成功を、｢自分達の手で作り上げたのだ！｣と思うようになる。  これが老子の自然に基づく政治であり、会社でも家庭でも同じ様に通じる事である。これに似た様な話で、中世のヨーロッパの将軍が自分の息子に言った言葉に、このような言葉がある。  ｢息子よ、もしおまえが最高のリーダーになりたいのであれば、他の誰よりも優れた知識と武力を身につけよ。しかし、決してそれを家臣に知らせてはならぬ。さすればおまえは、最高のリーダーとなるであろう！｣  　これらの教訓によると、リーダーが最良の結果を生む為には、自...

  世界に誇れる日本人の高い民度  コレは根本的な文化や価値観の違いである。従って日本の起業精神・経営理念は海外の経営者には理解できないのである。２７００年の歴史や文化を、僅か数百年の歴史しかない国が理解しようなど不可能であろう。日本の歴史や文化、日本人の心、つまりは「日本人の民度」は世界中から称賛されている。それを証明するように、世界で最も喜ばれる観光客は日本人であるとのデータもある。また、東京オリンピック２０２０でも称賛された日本人の「おもてなしの心」は世界中の人々の記憶に新しい。さらには、東日本大震災の際には、鉄道の駅で足止めをされた多くの帰宅難民が、綺麗に列を作って駅構内の脇や階段の隅に座っていたり寝ている映像が流れた。コレは日本では当たり前の事かもしれない。しかし肉体的にも精神的にも疲れ切った状態で、しかも自分の生命の危機であるかも知れないような状況でも社会的な秩序を守れる国民は、果たして世界でどれくらい居るだろうか。しかも現場で警察官などが先導したり指示したりしているわけではなく、ほぼ全ての日本人が自発的に秩序だった行動をしていたのである。  当時私は海外に拠点を置いていたのだが、この映像を流しながらコメントをしているアナウンサーや評論家の言葉に感動したのを覚えている。同じ日本人として非常に誇らしい気分にさせてくれるものであった。震災は非常に心苦しかったが、人間は本当に追い込まれた時にその本性が出ると言われているように、「例え自分が生命の危機にあったとしても、周囲に極力迷惑を掛けないように社会の秩序を守ろうとする行動を自発的に行う」と言う事こそが真の日本人の民度であると世界に証明できた一面もあった。 

  日本は「個人の利益」よりも「企業の存続」を重んじる  欧米諸国の雇用形態と、日本の雇用形態では、理念というか目的というかそもそもの概念が異なる。先程も述べたように、日本の企業の寿命の長さは世界一である。しかもダントツ飛びぬけている。日本という国自体が約２７００年という世界で最も長い歴史がある国であると言う事にも関係してくるが、話が長くなるのでここでは割愛する。要は、日本は物事の継続性を重視する文化や、年配者・長寿のモノ・歴史が長いモノに対して敬意を払い敬う民族性があるのである。何百年もの歴史がある建築物の維持に国の税金を何億円と費やす事に関して、その行為を批判する国民よりもむしろその行為を誇らしく感じる国民の方が圧倒的に多いのである。その建築物を取り壊して新たな施設を建てたり、新たな事業を始めた方が費用対効果が高い可能性が高いのにも関わらずである。つまり日本人はお金で買えない価値というものを非常に重宝する、大切にする国民なのである。  短期の金銭的な利益よりも、長期の文化的な感受性から得られる人間性の向上を重んじるとでもいうべきか。自分の利益や自分の幸福よりも、何十年後、何百年後の世代の利益や幸せを重視する国民性・民族性は日本人特有のものであろう。コレは言葉では上手く言い表すことの出来ない、日本人特有の価値観である。「後世に伝える」という言葉が日本ほど国民に浸透している国は世界にない。  ビジネスの世界においても当然このような考えであるから、日本の企業は世界でも圧倒的に寿命が長いのである。短期的な利益よりも長期的な利益を追求する・重視する企業文化が根付いているのである。コレは企業理念や企業戦略に記載してあるものなどではない。そんなことをしたら短期（短気も含む・・・）の投資家達や海外機関投資家達の理解は得られないからである。国民性・民族性というものは体の奥底に根付いているものである。心の奥底というかＤＮＡに刻まれている不変のものである。従って、欧米諸国の経営者や政治家が自分の名声や自分の利益を重視した発言や判断を下すのに比べて、日本の経営者達はより長い期間での成果や利益を検討したうえで判断を下す事が多いのである。この行為が時に、  「日本の企業は行動が遅い」  「日本の企業は判断が遅い」  と言わ...
