Importance of team communication

The priority in the daily restaurant operation will change every minute and every second. But how can we catch the moment of the change of priority quickly and accurately that changes every minute and every second? The simplest and most effective way is to always communicate with team members. It's ideal for all members to understand each other’s mind perfectly and to be able to share the same picture by eye contact, but in reality it's quite difficult. I recommend having prompt and precise communication as much as possible. Especially during busy peak hours, verbal accurate communications will help the team to calm down. Taking close communications will increase the possibility of sharing same picture of the whole restaurant among the team and should lead the team to choose the correct priority.

Verbal communication will help you to convey information faster and more accurately. Verbal communication will help you to understand the thoughts and actions of other members more clearly, firmly, and make more precise decisions about your next actions. This also prevents members from doing the same job at the same time which usually happens during busy peak hours.

As a result, your restaurant will be able to function as a team at a higher level. If all members are constantly thinking and caring about each other, restaurant’s operation will start to flow smoother. The more you care about others, the more you will want to know about others. The more you will want to know about others, the more you will want to communicate. The more you will want to communicate with others, the more your eyes will start to follow their movement. And this positive spiral creates strong team work in the restaurant. This is how the virtuous circle starts to generate in the restaurant.

  2. This is a very good blog to learn about Japanese hospitality and management. I used to work at Japanese company and my boss would always talk about Japanese omotenashi spirit to us. i like the Japanese way of thinking of sacrificing for the team.
